Hello!
I’m Akanksha, an independent journalist and editor based between Mumbai, India and Lisbon, Portugal.
I write about everything from social justice and tech to art and culture, but find myself repeatedly drawn to big picture stories told through a human lens. I’ve reported on cross-border human smuggling, investigated toxic workplace culture in billion-dollar edtech companies, and examined India’s ongoing air pollution crisis. My work has been published in Al Jazeera, the BBC, CNN, Dazed, The Globe and Mail, Wired, and more.
Since late 2023, I’ve worked as a commissioning editor at Lonely Planet, where I commission guidebook and online content for Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Between 2023 and 2024, I also had a monthly column on JSTOR Daily, “Once Upon a Workplace,” which explored the world of jobs lost to time and technology.
